Maintaining Itachi's Character

WARNING: FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT READ CHAPTER 397 OF NARUTO, THIS IS SOMEWHAT OF A SPOILER.

As you may all, the chapter that had appeared last year has changed absolutely everything on how Itachi is viewed as a character.

He is not necessarily cold and ruthless as many have thought him to be-- he DOES have some good in himself!

This brings controversy to fan fic writers now how to maintain his character. Those who have written Itachi out of character could now consider their creation to BE in character, and those who HAVE written it the way it was before could be considered an inaccurate portraylal.

How do you fellow members ponder about this? Personally, I think it's fine just the way writers previously wrote him. You see, Itachi is a very complex character. If you ask me, despite the knowledge we know, Itachi should STILL be written the same way.

These acts of kindness that nobody ever knew about were part of his character. Despite the fact that he cared for Sasuke, he still did not hold back against him when they first met after the chuunin exams.

You know what this means? BOTH sides are Itachi's character. He quietly did what he did-- he did not broadcast it to the world, and hid the truth behind himself very well. This is Itachi's TRUE character. He has taught himself to be cold, heartless, and ruthless, so to some extent, he must be such, no?

I don't know. Personally, I think Itachi should just stay the same he is. Even if he does care for his brother, he just didn't show it, which means that this cold side of him is going to have to remain there.

Just because Itachi cares, does not mean you should portray him as a soft, warm and melting chocolate cookie. You get my drift?

Eh. xD This is how I view it. ^^ You are entitled to your own opinion, so if you don't agree with me, it's no biggie.

I went to the anime convention today.

It was AWESOME! I bought tons of Itachi posters, and even got a pillow with him on it! Too bad the anime convention only comes once a year. :/

You're right. Itachi can be soft, but he will always have his cold and heartless self, but we will always love him, right.

I have always written itachis character as before time skip

He is still the person he always does...anyone is capable of doing ruthless things

My thoughts on the matter are that the scenes where we have seen itachi after the massacre are just one moment in his life. Of course it showed him being ruthless because he was moving the plot. But you cant imagine that that is exactly who he is

people are more then just five minutes so how can people make his character concrete out of the small moments we have seen him?

Thats why im not surprised by the latest chapters. In fact I actually predicted them more then a year ago. The way kishi writes his characters there had to be MORE to itachi then what we had seen.

because i type itasaku fanfics i potray him mostly as the cool mysterious self much like he already is so i agree with you he should stay the same.

I totally agree with you! i thought just the same about itachi. and i also think he should stay the same! that he does care for his brother doesn't mean that he's a f****** softy now!

itachi has good in him deep down but deep down is where it will stay,he will never be the same brother on the outside as he was when sasuke was younger. im sure at times he might show a slight reaction but itachi has kept this calm exterior front for so long now he won't change i don't think and also most ninja's hide their feelings and thats how itachi will remain. i have recently read a fanfic about itachi and sakura and after reading the latest manga chapter its amazing how right th e fanfic writer was right about itachi's character all along. and i don't think itachi will ever go soft and mellow like naruto but is just acting human,its impossible for someone to be completely heartless hes still human. but i think itachi won't ever let his cold guard down since hes been used to living like that for so long and also he would never want to show an enemy he has emotional weaknesses so his feelings will always remain hidden since hes safer that way in the ninja world.

I think that whether writers make him the cold Akatsuki Itachi, or a withdrawn brother, it will both be good. I honestly for the first time read a "non-masacre" Ita/Saku fic and it was pretty good. I didn't think I would like Itachi if he hadn't been emotionally scarred, but in her story he still was, only in a different way. So yeah, I think as long as people don't turn him into Naruto anything they write will be alright.
